VFW Services

The objective of Post 2486 and all VFW Posts is to support programs initiatives that increase awareness of the VFW. This does not end when the troops re-deploy home.  Soldiers and their families continue to need our backing and assistance.

The vital support program include  EDUCATE; ADVOCATE; HELP; DELIVER.  There are 255 VFW posts statewide serving 54,678 VFW members and Auxiliary members.  The VFW members provide 132, 905 hours volunteering in their communities from hosting blood drive to Operation Christmas Cheer to name a few well-known events.

Educate Actions:

Spreading the word to separating service members about their well-earned VA benefits through private benefits counseling sessions with VFW accredited Service Officers.

Advocate Actions:

VFW is active in lobbying for legislation to support our Veterans and family members such as grass-root efforts for SB3479 which is the Illinois version of the "Claim Shark Bill".   This bill protects our veterans from the unscrupulous law firms and organizations that are charging excess fees for filing initial VA disability claims.

Furthering the VFW efforts this year,VFW is hosting the 'Veterans Lobby Day" in Springfield.  Veterans from across the state will met with Senators and Representatives to discuss Veteran issues and request their support on key veteran legislation.

Help Actions:

The VFW helps military service personnel and their families though UNMET Needs. This is a program to assist military members and their families who are experiencing a financial hardship directly related to military service.  All grants are paid directly to the 'creditor' companies from the Veterans and Military Support Programs Department.  Each case is reviewed individually and acceptance is determined by a committee.

Deliver Actions:
